Soil moisture levels have improved in Indiana.
The USDA says statewide average precipitation was more than double the normal for the month of March at 5.3 inches, pushing soil moisture levels higher ahead of widespread planting.
That heavy precipitation along with warmer temperatures for most of the month led to ponding and muddy conditions in some fields.
Despite muddy feedlots, livestock are in good shape.
64% of Indiana’s winter wheat crop is in good to excellent shape, 2% less than last month.
