Minnesota farmer expects planting delays

A farmer in west-central Minnesota says it might be the second week of May before he can begin spring fieldwork.

Richard Syverson of Clontarf tells Brownfield there’s still about a foot of snow on the ground and roads are terrible.

“They’ve been thawing out after all that rain that we had that went through the snow in December and January, so it’s been a real struggle and looks like mud season is going to last longer than normal in Minnesota, at least in my part of the state.”

He says if he’s able to get in the field by May 10th he’d be pretty satisfied and there are no plans to make any changes.
