Technology advances bring a different approach to farming

As guidance and automation advance, Whitewater, Wisconsin corn farmer Luke Goessling says farmers are embracing new ways to get farm work done.

“We’ll get to the point soon where farmers won’t be sitting in tractors anymore,” he says. “In certain aspects, I think today’s farmer is learning where their best value of where to be is. There’s an old saying that the $10 per hour jobs of sitting on the tractor isn’t the best place for today’s average farmer to be sitting and it’s probably better off to be doing the $100 per hour jobs, managing the $10 per hour jobs.
