Hula says uniform emergence is the start of a successful crop

A multi-year national corn yield winner sees the planter as one of the most important pieces of equipment on his farm.

Virginia farmer David Hula tells Brownfield surpassing 600-bushel corn starts at emergence and switching planter technology has helped.

“For growers, adopt some technology where they can better place their seed so we can get uniform emergence,” he shares.  “Then down the road, I’m just excited because now they’re doing these exact shots where you can put just fertilizer spaced right there on the seed.”

Hula says he’d like to see fertility placement improve by having starter fertilizer on both sides of the corn row with deep placement.
