Questionable conditions remain in Plains ahead of planting

An ag meteorologist is concerned about the lack of soil moisture in the High Plains as spring planting gets closer. Drew Lerner with World Weather Incorporated tells Brownfield conditions are questionable.

“There’s going to have to be greater volumes of rain, especially from west Texas to western South Dakota and southwestern North Dakota.”

But Lerner says soil moisture should be adequate for most Midwestern states as planting begins, though he’s expecting a cooler than normal temperatures to start.
