South Dakota winter wheat rating almost steady

South Dakota’s winter wheat crop ended February with a nearly unchanged condition rating.

The USDA says 23% of the crop is called good to excellent, 1% more than at the end of January, and 57% is rated fair, 3% higher.

Soil moisture levels did improve somewhat and while the entire state is at least abnormally dry, most of the state now maxes out at moderate drought, significantly better than at the start of winter.
