Thursday evening’s City Council meeting would see a new police chief sworn in as current captain of patrol for the Muscatine Police Department, Anthony (Tony) Kies, was officially sworn in. Kies will officially begin his new duty on March 1, as Chief Brett Talkington is set to retire on February 28.

Below are a gallery of images captured by the City of Muscatine during the February 16 Council Meeting that show Kies and family, as well as the surrounding community — including Mayor Brad Bark — relishing in his new position.

A 17-year-veteran of the Muscatine Police Department, Kies was selected as the next Chief of Police following an extremely competitive process. The Muscatine City Council unanimously approved his appointment at their December 1 meeting.
