Michigan Sugar says processing campaign is nearly finished

The Michigan Sugar Company says warmer than normal winter weather has been a challenge for beet storage.

Elizabeth Taylor tells Brownfield less than seven weeks of processing last year’s crop remain.

“This year has definitely had its struggles,” she shares.  “We’ve seen great, great sugar content and quality in the beets.  Storage has been a struggle with the temperature fluctuation.”

She says beet piles have needed more management and blending to optimize what can be sliced.
