Iowa farmer says Mexico’s revised GM corn ban directly impacts producers

Southwest Iowa farmer Jeff Jorgenson says Mexico’s revised biotech corn ban presents new marketing challenges for producers.

“Down in our local area, there’s a fair amount of white corn production and I think there is some concern,” he said. “There’s a lot of this grain that we produce here that gets across the river into Nebraska or Kansas and a lot of it does head to the southwest or into Mexico.”

Mexico recently announced it will immediately ban imports of genetically modified corn for human consumption instead of waiting until 2024.
