Negative start for ’23 U.S. tractor sales

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers says U.S. tractor sales fell in January.

Curt Blades with AEM says that’s because of a significant decline in sales for tractors under 40-horsepower.

“That market had been so strong during the pandemic,” he said. “The demand basically just kind of got satisfied.”

But, he tells Brownfield AEM’s outlook for 2023 tractor sales is strong.

“When you look at the large tractors over 100-horsepower,” Blades said, “to see growth of about 23% for January is really pointing to some optimism in the overall farm economy.”

Blades says he’s concerned about the price inflation of ag inputs that’s impacting farm profitability.
