Carol Ann Steinmetz

Carol Ann Steinmetz, 97, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Lutheran Living.

Visitation will be held at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home on Wednesday February 15, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Service will be held on Thursday February 16, 2023, at the Wesley United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.

Carol was born on November 27th, 1925, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Otto Boehl and Louise M. Tomfeld. She married Ladd on August 8th, 1948 in Muscatine, Iowa.

Carol was a lifelong resident of Muscatine. She previously attended Grace Lutheran Church and later attended Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of Iowa Watercolor Society, a founding member of Artists in Action, the Muscatine Art Center, Ladies of the Elks, Chapter J.R of P.E.O., and the 20th Century Club. Carol took a correspondence course called “Famous Artists” and developed her love for art. She was a well-known local artist with works in Germany and China. Carol and Ladd traveled extensively. Carol was a lifelong bridge player. She attended the University of Iowa and was a flutist in the Hawkeye Marching Band. In addition, she loved to play the piano.

Carol will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dr. Robert Ladd Steinmetz, and wife, Suzana, of Tallahassee, Florida; her daughter, Linda Carol Pasvogel and husband, Mervin, of Wilton; four grandchildren, Jesse Wathan and wife, Angie, Julie McCabe and husband, Michael, Carsten Steinmetz, and Fiona Steinmetz; and six great-grandchildren, Josie, Justin, and Jarret Wathan, and Ethan, Logan, and Ashlyn McCabe.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
