Wisconsin legislation would allow lower-nutrient manure-based fertilizer

Legislation introduced in the Wisconsin Assembly would allow the sale of manure-based fertilizer with lower levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Current law requires fertilizer to have a combined weight of these three active ingredients at least 24% of the total weight.  If passed, this would allow more use of compost-based soil or plant additives with less N, P, and K.  The bill also relaxes some labeling and field testing requirements now in place for fertilizers.
