Dairy groups say keep flavored milk in school

Dairy groups are encouraging USDA to maintain flavored milk standards in school meal programs.

Matt Herrick, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, with the International Dairy Foods Association tells Brownfield two proposals have been made on milk as part of new school nutrition standards.

“We prefer that they just leave it alone because right now the milk that’s in the program already meets the proposed guidelines,” he says.

One option is to maintain current standards and limit added sugar, while Herrick says the other proposes to remove chocolate milk from middle and elementary schools.
