Larry Dale Porter

Larry Dale Porter, 81, of Muscatine went home to Jesus on Monday, February 6, 2023, at Mercy Iowa City Hospital.

He was born in Mercer, MO the son of Doral and Reba Porter. Larry attended Brush College Country School the first 7 years of his education, graduated from Mercer High School and attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. He was there for 3 years graduating with a degree in chemistry and earned his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Missouri Rolla. After working at Monsanto main headquarters in St. Louis for 3 years, Larry found his professional career home at Grain Processing Corp in Muscatine. He was honored by GPC for 55 years of service to them in 2021 and retired in September of 2021. He loved his work.

Larry gave his heart to the Lord in March of 1957 at a revival in an old movie theater in Lineville, IA, and his love for Jesus never ceased. He played piano and sang from his heart with the love he had for the Savior, until the day He took him home.

He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 61 years, his daughters and sons-in-law Tammy and Jeff Dunbar, Janna and Jonathan Risenhoover, three grandsons Matt (Heather) and Jake (Courtney) Dunbar and Jasper Risenhoover, and three great-grandchildren Lyric and Shepherd Dunbar and Aislinn Dunbar. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Randy and Dena Porter, several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as sisters-in-law Carol Tellis and Judy Porter. He is also survived by an aunt, Ruth Porter. He was preceded in death by both parents, his grandparents and uncles, aunts and in-laws.

There will be no service or visitation. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Pearl City Outreach because his tender heart belonged to those in need. Please mail donations to the funeral home.
