Many dairy farmers in the European Union and New Zealand are facing future environmental guidelines that will likely force a cut in milk production, but in the EU, that isn’t happening yet.
The U.S. Dairy Export Council says limited production growth in the EU supported a 2% gain in U.S. dairy exports in 2022, but dramatically higher milk checks triggered increased output in the third quarter. USDEC says the EU’s 1.3% September and October production increase probably won’t last as the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy will force each member state to meet climate goals.
