Cotton, rice production see year to year declines

U.S. cotton and rice production was down in 2022.

The USDA says upland cotton production was 14.206 million bales, nearly 3 million lower than 2021, as higher average yield at 947 pounds per acre and planted area were canceled out by increased abandonment caused by drought in parts of the U.S., most noticeable in Texas.

Domestic and international cotton ending stocks projections were up from December, with the U.S. increase tied to slower export demand and a month-to-month rise in the production guess.
