Weather impacting Tennessee crops, livestock

Tennessee saw wide-ranging weather during December.

The USDA says that by mid-month, temperatures dropped in most of the state, impacting livestock, pasture and forage, winter wheat, and infrastructure conditions.

40% of Tennessee’s winter wheat crop is called good to excellent, a drop of 15% on the month, and while soil moisture has generally improved, stateside monthly rainfall was below normal.

57% of cattle are rated good to excellent, 60% of pastures and rangelands are called fair to good, and three quarters of the state has adequate forage.
