James Joe Christofferson

James Joe Christofferson, 90, of Conesville, formerly of Nichols, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

There will be no visitation.  A private inurnment service will be at the Nichols Cemetery at a later date.  The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

James was born on June 23, 1932, in Nichols, the son of Christian Carl and Gladys Marie Reiland Christofferson.  He married Betty Jean Westfall on March 5, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Nichols.  To this union five children were born: Linda Kay, Diana Jean, Steven Christian, and twins, Eugene Wayne (Gene) and Eileen Sue.  They were farmers, raised hogs, cattle, and crops southeast of Nichols.

James lived his life around the Nichols and Conesville area, a farmer.  After moving to Conesville, he worked for Huff Roofing in Lone Tree, later retiring.  After retiring, he spent his days fishing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Jim loved his family, wife, Betty, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children, Linda K. (Ken) Forbes of Conesville, Eileen S. Christofferson of Sigourney and her twin brother, Eugene W. Christofferson of Sigourney; a daughter in law, Lou Ann Christofferson (Steven) of Muscatine; a son in law, Terry Hoermann (Diana) of Lone Tree; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Gladys Christofferson; his wife, Betty in 2004; a son, Steven C. Christian in 2003; and a daughter, Diana J. Hoerrrmann in 2019.

You may be gone, no longer living on this earth as we see it; but Dad you will live on – in the memories of your family and friends.  There will always be a part of you living in those who knew you and a smile.  We will miss you Dad, see you soon.
