Margaret Heerd

Margaret Heerd, 96, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Lutheran Living.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home.  Reverend Corrine Welsch will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  There will be a time of food and fellowship at the Rendezvous following the burial.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice, in Margaret’s honor. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Margaret was born on Mother’s Day, May 9, 1926, in Muscatine, the daughter of Ernst H.G. and Jeanette M. Silberhorn Pagel.  She married Irving E. Heerd on April 16, 1950, E & R Church.  He preceded her in death.

Margaret was a MHS graduate, class of 1944.  She was a resident of Muscatine her whole life.  Margaret worked at Cohns, then later at Electric Light and Power Company.  She was a Sunday School teacher at Faith United Church.  Margaret was a member of the BPW, Mooseheart Community of Women of Moose, Muscatine General Hospital Auxiliary, and Faith Ringers and Harmony Guild at Faith United Church.  She served on the Salvation Army Board.

Margaret earned the nickname ‘Perk’ because she was active like a percolator.  She enjoyed bowling and painting ceramics.  Margaret loved hosting elegant affairs.

She is survived by one sister, Mary Lou Parchert of Illinois City, Illinois; her nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Parchert and his wife, Denise, Darren Parchert, Renee End, and her husband, John, Rhonda Parchert, Alan Parchert and his wife, Joan, Kathy Witte and her husband, John, Kris Meeker, and her husband, Don, Jeff Pagel and his wife, Sally, and Patrick Pagel and his wife, Caleen; and many many great nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irving; two brothers, Hermann A. Pagel and Richard Pagel; and two nephews, Henry ‘Hank’ Pagel and Michael Pagel.
