NCBA wants emphasis on risk management programs in the next farm bill

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says the next farm bill should expand access and increase funding for risk management programs.

Tanner Beymer, senior director of government affairs, says Livestock Risk Protection and Pasture, Range and Forage Lands are two programs that need additional resources. “It is going to critical that Congress takes this seriously and provides support for programs that are designed to help producers whether those storms through indemnity but also through more traditional insurance-based type products that allow them to manage risk on their operations.”

He says drought in the US has created additional challenges for cow/calf producers.
