Rail strike still a threat

Rail strike still a threat

The likelihood of a railroad strike continues as a major labor union has rejected a tentative agreement brokered by the White House today.

SMART-Transportation Division union is opposing the compromise and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, while in favor, has said it will honor a picket line.

Strike prevention measures, including stopping the shipment of farm inputs and chemicals, would start November 28th if a deal is not reached.

The cost of a strike is projected at $2 billion a day.
