Council to adopt goals for 2023 calendar year

The Muscatine City Council will conduct two public hearings during their first regular meeting of November this evening, Thursday, November 3, while Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark will issue a proclamation setting Small Business Saturday on November 26 and then swear in a new police officer.

The City Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall, 215 Sycamore Street, Muscatine, Iowa.

A virtual session will be held in conjunction with the in-person meeting for those who want to view the proceedings or make a comment but do not feel comfortable attending in person. Instructions for joining the virtual session are listed below.

The first public hearing will be to review the plans and specifications for replacing the tipping floor at the Muscatine Transfer Station. The second public hearing concerns the vacation of a utility easement at 5105 Sevig Street.

The Council will also be adopting the City Council Goals for the 2023 calendar year. The goals were developed during a Council work session on October 12. The Council identified major accomplishments of the City in 2022, reviewed various metrics associated with each of the City’s priority areas (Vibrant, Safe, and Health Community, Reliable Public Infrastructure, and Customer Service), reviewed the status of the Council’s 2022 goals, and identified goals for 2023 that align with the City’s strategic plan adopted in 2020.

Among the other actions Thursday, the Council will:

  • Approve a resolution supporting Muscatine as a host city for the 50th Anniversary of RAGBRAI in 2023;
  • Award a contract for the demolition of a structure at 713 Locust;
  • Set a public hearing for the sale of property at Lot 1 Arrowhead Lake subdivision;
  • Approve the Annual Urban Renewal report for Fiscal Year 2021/2022;
