Bigger milk checks necessary for rising expenses

A dairy farmer says he’s thankful for better milk prices as costs remain high.

“We’re pretty much needing all of that just to cover the cost of inputs going up.”

Kris Wardin tells Brownfield, “Our largest expenses are the ones that are really going high—feed prices are obviously our number one here at the dairy, fuel is another big one.”

Wardin says rising fertilizer prices have also increased the importance of manure nutrients and their value to his cropping neighbors.
