Farmer says rail issues continue to impact grain elevators

Western Indiana farmer Kevin Cox says ongoing rail issues are causing unexpected grain elevator delays this harvest season.

“The elevators are having a problem getting trains in,” he says. “We’ve experienced some five- and six-hour delays sitting in line at the elevator, or elevators closing because they are full.”

He tells Brownfield, “elevators are filling their overflow piles and buildings trying to accommodate the grain that’s coming in and then they just find themselves in a situation where they just can’t get trains to get rid of it.”

Cox says last week he got a call that his elevator would only be open Monday and Tuesday.
