William Oeter, 95, of Muscatine, passed away at Addington Place on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Muscatine, with Reverend Kevin Powell presiding. Burial will be in the Trinity Episcopal Church columbarium. Military rites will follow the service at the church. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Bill was born in Muscatine on May 21, 1927 to Fred W. and Neva (McCullough) Oeter. He married Darlene L. Whitmer on March 30, 1951 in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2017.
Bill graduated from Muscatine High School in 1945 and the American Institute of Commerce in 1950. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He was employed by GPC for 24 years, retiring as Payroll Manager. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and had served on the vestry committee and many others. He is also a former ember of the Elks Lodge #304 and the American Legion Post #27. He was an avid Hawkeye and NASCAR fan. After retiring, he and Darlene enjoyed traveling and spending the winter months in Fort Myers, Florida.
Those left to honor Bill’s memory include two grandchildren, Darin Oeter and Chelsea Mathis; three great-grandchildren, Hendrix and E.J. Oeter, and Tristan Mathis, nieces; Cheryl Hodges and Lisa Wachenfeld, and nephew, Karl Prinz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene; one son, William W. Oeter; and one brother, Donald Oeter.
