Agronomist provides tips on 2023 crop preparation

As preparation is underway for another season of high inputs, an agronomist says farmers need to be careful not to cut corners on fertility.

Dana Harder with Burrus Seed tells Brownfield growers need to spend time in the fields this fall to maximize return on investment in 2023.

“Soil testing is going to pay dividends. When inputs go up, doing your homework and knowing where you stand for soil fertility and grid sampling tells you where you are at, then you know how to manage going forward.”

He recommends farmers consider the maximum return to nitrogen rate for their area and make decisions in-season based on weather.
