A central Illinois farmer says long dry spells and extreme heat this growing season will keep yields below average.
Jim Reed of Deland tells Brownfield, “Scouting and local crop yield tours have shown us to be 20-25 bushels per acre below last year. We are seeing tip back on the ears at 2 to 2.5 inches where it has just aborted the outer ends.”
He says they are at least two weeks away from harvest having planting most of their corn and soybeans in mid-May.
