Incremental milk production gains for July

Milk production during July was up fractionally on the year as a smaller herd canceled out higher per cow gains.

USDA says production in the U.S. for the month was up two-tenths of a percent at slightly more than 19 billion pounds with production per cow up 19 pounds from last year.

The herd size was down 67,000 head on the year but up 1,000 from the previous month.

Michigan remains the leader in per cow output.
