Ohio corn, soybean ratings improve
Corn and soybean ratings improved last week in Ohio.
The USDA says the average statewide temperature was just over four degrees warmer than usual, while precipitation was in-line with normal rates, and farmers had five days suitable for fieldwork.
59% of Ohio’s corn crop is rated good to excellent, up 3% on the week, with 91% of the crop silking, compared to the five-year average of 86%, 45% at the dough making stage, compared to 38% on average, and 1% dented.
56% of soybeans are called good to excellent, 2% higher, with 90% blooming and 63% at the pod setting stage, both ahead of the typical respective paces.
51% of the state’s pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, a drop of 11%.
