Minnesota corn condition rating down 5% on the week
Minnesota farmers welcomed much needed rain this past weekend.
But USDA’s latest weekly crop report says while topsoil moisture improved to 76 percent adequate to surplus, most of the state is still on the dry side.
Corn condition ratings fell five percentage points on the week to 63 percent good to excellent. Development is about a week behind normal with 49 percent of the crop silking.
For soybeans, 69 percent are blooming, which is close to the five-year average. The condition rating held steady at 62 percent good to excellent.
Oats are 93 percent headed and 10 percent harvest. Spring wheat is 94 percent headed with 72 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.
Sugarbeets are called 71 percent good to excellent, and the second cutting of alfalfa is nearly 70 percent done.
