33% of Tennessee soybeans, 29% of cotton good to excellent

Rains were a mixed bag for Tennessee farmers last week as the eastern side of the state had widespread heavy rains, while it was mostly dry in the middle and western portions.

Statewide, soybeans are rated 33 percent good to excellent, with 69 percent blooming, and 37 percent setting pods. Cotton is rated 29 percent good to excellent, 84 percent of cotton is squaring, and 51 percent setting bolls. Corn is rated 30 percent good to excellent with 92 percent silking and 49 percent in the dough stage. Tobacco is 48 percent topped and 31 percent is rated good to excellent.

Pasture conditions declined to 31 percent good to excellent. Hay producers were getting ready to start their second cuttings this past week.

Topsoil and subsoil moistures are both 63 percent short to very short.
