More cheese and less butter in cold storage

There was a record amount of cheese and less butter in cold storage at the end of June.  There were 1.5 billion pounds of cheese in storage at the end of June, compared to 1.51 billion pounds at the end of May and 1.43 billion pounds a year ago, but that was enough to set a June record.

USDA officials say there were fewer American-style cheeses stored in June than the previous month, but more than 633 million pounds of specialty cheeses helped set the June storage record.

Butter stocks were up 3 percent from May but down 20 percent from a year ago.  There were 414 million pounds of butter in storage on June 30th.  There were 321 million pounds of butter in storage at the end of May and 331 million pounds of butter in storage a year ago.
