Farmer prepares for harvest season diesel costs

North-central Iowa farmer April Hemmes says she’s bracing for the high price of input costs like diesel this fall.

“To fill my combine tank, which is about 250 gallons, it’s going to be almost $1300 every time I fill it,” Hemmes said.

But she tells Brownfield, “We have to be thankful for our high commodity prices so that we can pay these high input costs,” Hemmes said. “In 38 years this has been the most I’ve seen prices go up.”

The national average price of diesel was $5.45 per gallon on Friday, according to AAA.
