West-central Minnesota farmer says crops look surprisingly good
A west-central Minnesota farmer says crops that did get planted look good.
Pope County corn and soybean grower Richard Syverson tells Brownfield there’s a significant amount of prevent plant in his area because of a wet spring.
“And we just fought to get as much in as we could. The heat units we’ve had since then have been phenomenal, they’ve added up. And the crop that we got planted has looked just amazing considering the conditions it went into the ground in.”
He says corn is beginning to tassel and rain would be welcome.
“It’s a critical time for crop production here, but considering what things looked like when we planted, we’ve come a long, long ways.”
Syverson, the first vice president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, says trendline or above corn yields are still attainable with moisture in the next week or so.
