Extended dryness concerns farmers

A southwest Iowa farmer says he’s concerned about drought conditions late in the growing season.

Dave McGargill tells Brownfield, “We’re going to need some decent rains here towards the end of July into August to get the beans to finish off. If that drought happens to keep creeping this way, we are going to suffer some yield loss.”

But he says they are in much better shape compared to northwest Iowa where drought conditions have been more severe. “The crop has been stressed some, but not anything like those guys up there.”

McGargill raises corn and soybeans near Randolph in Fremont County.
