Welcome rains help most Wisconsin crops

Most Wisconsin farms received at least some welcome rain last week, but many growers would like more.

USDA reporters say topsoil moisture is 73% adequate but 21% short with similar subsoil readings.

Seventy-seven percent of Wisconsin’s corn is in good to excellent shape with 9% of the crop silking.

Forty-six percent of the state’s soybeans are now blooming with 5% setting pods.  Seventy-six percent of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

Potatoes are improving with 95% of the crop reported as good to excellent.

Winter wheat coloring isnow at 92% and 91% of the oats have headed.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay is 78% finished.  The all-hay outlook is better, with 83% of the crop in good to excellent condition.
