Tennessee crops: soybeans 39%, cotton 37% good to excellent

Tennessee farmers welcomed widespread rains this past week, but crop conditions held.

Statewide, soybeans are rated 39% good to excellent, with 53% blooming, and 20% setting pods.  Cotton is rated 37% good to excellent, 81% of cotton is squaring and 35% setting bolls. Corn is rated 40% good to excellent with 82% silking and 31% in the dough stage.  Tobacco is 34% topped and 40% is rated good to excellent.

Pastures conditions improved to 33% good to excellent and but with the less than ideal conditions, farmers have been forced to start feeding hay, tapping into an already short supply.  Some areas that did receive precipitation are looking forward to a second cutting of hay.

Topsoil moisture is 56% short to very short and subsoil moisture is 58% short to very short.
