Kansas Representative Mann shares his top priorities for the next farm bill
A member of the House Ag Committee says risk management is one his priorities for the next farm bill.
Republican Tracy Mann of Kansas tells Brownfield he wants to maintain coverage levels for crop insurance programs. “There will be efforts to chip away at it and to diminish it. We need to make sure it doesn’t happen. I think we need to look at loan rates, what those numbers are know by acknowledging where commodity prices now but also where input prices are as well.”
He says improving incentives for conservation practices is another focus. “I want to make sure we want to punish our early adopters. We need to acknowledge that agriculture is part of the climate solution, not part of the problem. We want to make sure that we don’t punish folks who transitioned to no-till years ago.”
Mann says expanding market access programs is another priority.
