Tennessee crops showing signs of stress

Persistent hot and dry weather continues to stress Tennessee crops.

Statewide, soybeans are rated 48% good to excellent, with 23% blooming, and 1% setting pods.  Cotton is rated 48% good to excellent, 43% of cotton is squaring and 10% setting bolls. Corn is rated 52% good to excellent with 44% silking and 2% in the dough stage.

Pastures conditions dropped to 29% good to excellent.  The first cutting of hay is 96% complete.  Hay and roughage supplies are 61% adequate and 32% short to very short.

Topsoil moisture is 72% short to very short and subsoil moisture is 66% short to very short.
