Iowa corn, soybeans 77% good to excellent

Very little rain fell across Iowa last week.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report reflects a lot of progress with six days suitable for fieldwork, as farmers completed the first cutting of hay, side-dressed corn, and sprayed crops.

Corn has begun silking about three days later than normal, with 77 percent in good to excellent condition.

Soybeans are also 77 percent good to excellent with 13 percent of the crop blooming, four days later than the five-year average.

Topsoil moisture is rated 66 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 68 percent adequate to surplus.
