Paul J. Sywassink, 89, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral Service will be at a later date. Private burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Muscatine City Inc. The Ralph J. Paul was born on March 21, 1933, in Muscatine, the son of James and Ruth Froehner Sywassink. He married Eleanor R. Hill on November 29, 1959, in Roland, Iowa. They were married for 62 years.

He graduated from Muscatine High School and was a mechanic at Koser Equipment and later welded at HON until retirement.

Paul was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler, bowling on several leagues, and an avid cyclist, riding in RAGBRAI seven times. He was proud of his Master Gardner achievement and was an expert woodworker. He enjoyed running the combine during harvest time for Sam Bieri for over 20 years, building models and he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ellie Sywassink of Muscatine; four children, Debbie Moore and husband, Rusty, of Highlands, Texas, Diane Nichols and husband, Kevin, of Rosenburg, Texas, Dan Sywassink and wife, Lori, of Eliza, Illinois, and Doug Sywassink of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, Austin Moore and wife, Chelsea, Chris Moore and wife, Jessica, Madison Nichols, Kyle Nichols, Matthew Sywassink and wife, Aubrey, Michael Sywassink and wife, Megan, and Melissa Lincoln and husband, Keith, Cody Sywassink, and Jordan Sywassink; 12 great grandchildren, AJ, Ellie, Oliver, Jordan, Kylie, Samantha, Leah, Lily, Charlotte, Harper, Macy, and Anika; two sisters, Marion Hetzler and husband, Wilber, of Muscatine, and Pauline Philgreen of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Edward Philgreen.
