University of Nebraska unveils details about companion USDA research facility

The University of Nebraska has received public and private funding to build a facility to compliment a USDA research center.

President Ted Carter tells Brownfield the USDA facility will explore precision agriculture, technology, innovation and policy. “What we want to do is create our own research arm of that and that it would focus specifically on Nebraska, again, with research space to that additional work.”

He says state appropriated $50 million dollars and with matching fund that center will help the University explore “things like regenerative and resilient land properties. How do we do the right type of research to get through the next flood or next drought?”

And, Carter says, the two facilities will be the first of its kind in the industry. “These are big ticket items and I would argue that when these are finished within the next 3 years, this will put us on a whole other level.”

Carter says the centers should be open by 2025.
