Tropics become active; more rain ahead for parts of the Heartland
A disturbance approaching the western Gulf Coast region should enhance rainfall over the next couple of days, with totals of 2 to 4 inches possible in coastal Texas. Lower amounts of 1 to 2 inches should fall elsewhere across the Deep South.
In contrast, mostly dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days in several areas, including the Great Basin, Pacific Coast States, and northern sections of the Rockies and Plains. Farther east, modest amounts of late-week rain (locally up to an inch) should fall in the Midwest and Northeast, in conjunction with a cold front’s passage.
The cold front will also deliver relief from a brief Midwestern hot spell, which should peak during the mid- to late-week period.
Elsewhere, the monsoon circulation will again become more active, with widespread showers dotting the Four Corners States.
