MO farmer pleased with early season crop growth

A western Missouri farmer says rains have been timely and stands look good early in the growing season.

Kyle Durham tells Brownfield his early planted corn is already about chest high…

“The later stuff is still struggling a little to canopy,” he said. “But with the 90 plus degree temperatures that we’ve had for the last week or so, it’s come on a lot in the last two weeks.”

The Carroll County farmer said he’s received more than seven inches of rain since planting with some fields almost double that.

“Locally, we’re probably ahead of the rest of the state,” Durham said. “But, you don’t have to go too far in any direction before that really starts to change.”

Durham says despite the rains, he was able to plant his river bottom ground along the Missouri River.

Brownfield’s Tom Steever contributed to this article.
