Iowa corn condition rating falls 3 points on the week

Little rain and heat headlined Iowa’s latest weekly crop update from USDA.

Despite the lack of rainfall, topsoil moisture is rated 80 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 74 percent adequate to surplus.

Corn condition is 83 percent good to excellent, a drop of three percentage points on the week.

Soybeans are 93 percent emerged, three days ahead of normal, with 80 percent of the crop considered good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa is 81 percent complete, one week behind last year and four days behind the five-year average.
