Wisconsin FFA Convention begins

Preparing the stage for the 2022 Wisconsin FFA Convention

Wisconsin’s FFA State Convention officially opens Tuesday but an important part of the event started Monday.

State FFA Executive Director Cheryl Zimmerman tells Brownfield selecting the state officer team for the upcoming year is a multi-step process. “They’re going through a personal interview, a knowledge interview, a discussion topic, a group interview, and then through this process then we will be narrowing it down to the top two candidates that will later on this week go before their delegates.”

One of the many state officer candidates is Kendra Goplin from Whitehall, who says potential officers must prepare for anything FFA-based and several ag issues because they never know what will come up in the interviews. “We get to sweat it out all day on Tuesday and then we find out who the finalists are on Wednesday morning, and then as soon as we’re announced as a top-two finalist, we will be whisked away to the delegate interview where the delegates will decide who the next officer is from their section.”

The 2022-23 state officers will be announced Wednesday evening.

The Wisconsin FFA Convention is taking place at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
