Planting advances in Minnesota, but remains behind usual pace

Corn planting is nearly complete in Minnesota.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says at 98 percent, this year’s pace trails 2021 by more than two weeks and the five-year average by eight days.

Corn emergence is 85 percent, with 58 percent considered good to excellent.

Soybean planting advanced to 88 percent, compared to 100 percent a year ago and 96 percent normally.

Soybean emergence is 10 days behind average with 61 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition.

For small grains, spring wheat and oats are both more than 90 percent planted, with barley at 89 percent.

Sugarbeet and potato planting is nearly finished, and the first cutting of alfalfa hay is more than halfway done.
