More hailstorms in Nebraska cause farmer to replant soybeans this week

A Central-Nebraska farmer says he’ll be replanting some crops this week after a recent hailstorm.

Clay Govier has a diversified row-crop operation near Broken Bow. “It’s disappointing when you have a really good-looking field of beans or corn, and they just get smoked from hail and you have to start from scratch.”

He tells Brownfield his corn crop will recover, but soybeans are another story. “We’ll have to replant four pivots of beans that received some pretty nasty hail.”

And, he says, he’s not the only one considering replanting this week. “There was a big stretch of hail and wind that flipped over a bunch of pivots and did quite a bit of damage here locally and I think across the entire state.”

A round of severe storms brought softball-size hail or larger and extreme winds to Southeast Nebraska Saturday night.
