Senator wants more trade as USTR heads to WTO Ministerial conference

The Biden administration has taken some criticism about the lack of agriculture trade with other countries.

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall tells Brownfield, “We should have a deal done with Great Britain.  We should have a deal done with the European Union. We should have a deal done with India.”

He says agriculture has benefited from the Phase on Trade Deal with China. “And of the most part, China Phase One worked.  I understand they didn’t live up to what they said they would do. There’s still a $300 billion trade imbalance with China.”

During a recent event with The Washington International Trade Association, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said that trade with China is complicated. “One of the most important responsibilities we have right now is to figure how to get this relationship right and nothing about this relationship is easy.”

And, she says, she’ll be discussing expanding U.S. markets with trade representatives from India at next week’s WTO Ministerial Conference. “We are working very hard on making our trade relationship with India effective and productive.”

The WTO Ministerial Conference is June 12-15 in Geneva, Switzerland.
