Wisconsin farmers made planting progress last week

Wisconsin farmers were able to accomplish a lot of tillage and planting last week.

USDA reporters say tillage was 94% finished as of Sunday.

Eighty-nine percent of the state’s corn is planted with emergence at 73%.  That’s a week behind last year, but a day ahead of average.  Eighty-four percent of the corn is in good to excellent condition statewide.

Farmers were able to complete 86% of the soybean planting as of Sunday.  Fifty-eight percent of those beans have already emerged, and 81% of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

Oats and potatoes are both 92% planted.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay is 51% finished.
